'57 Mercury Turnpike Cruiser

The Highway Beast

Named to commemorate the creation of the nation's Interstate Highway System, Mercury's 1957 Turnpike Cruiser was the flagship of the line and the first American car to be fitted with quad headlights, which were still at the time being legalized in all of the then 48 states.

A standard 49-position power seat was just one of the exclusive features, as was the roof-top ventilation (with intake ports located at the edges of the windshield) followed by the retractable rear window. This highway beast looked like it was from outer-space when first viewed by the masses.
