'05 Corvette C6-R

Victory at the 24 Hours of LeMans

A highlight in Corvette competition history was the 2005 C6-R GT1 sixth-generation grand tourer competition car, built to race specs by Pratt & Miller Engineering.

Under the hood was a 590 horsepower LS7 R Chevrolet (427 cubic inch) V8 incorporating a multipoint sequential electronic fuel injection induction system, dry-sump oiling system and innovative variable displacement arrangement used during caution periods to increase fuel economy.

It was shifted via a Xtrac 6-speed sequential transmission with AP carbon clutch. Aerodynamic enhancements over a stock C6 Corvette were designed with the aid of Computational Fluid Dynamics, and resulted in the fitting of a front splitter and mammoth rear wing.

The 2646-pound machine ran on 18-inch diameter BBS spoke wheels wrapped with Michelin race rubber. An innovative feature was the use of an air conditioning system to help drivers endure high cockpit temperatures. This factory-backed race car was a successful race winning vehicle during its time on the track, including a victory at the 24 Hours of LeMans.
