'04 Pontiac GTO

The Re-Launch

After GM's Bob Lutz took a trip to Australia, a ”Pontiac" GTO was made available to USA buyers by way of a 2004 converted Australian Holden Monaro that was re-purposed with left-hand steering.

A potent 5.7 Liter Corvette-derived V8 engine was under the scoop-less hood, and an optional Tremec 6-speed manual transmission was available.  0-60 mph was achieved in 5.3 seconds, with a 1/4-mile time of 13.62 seconds at 104.78 mph.

The re-launched GTO only lasted until June 2006 when production ended in Australia.  Hence, importation ceased for the fifth-generation famed Gran Turismo Omologato, a model that originally came to fruition in 1964 under John Z. DeLorean
